The Central Bank of the Republic of Uzbekistan hosted an event with commercial banks, payment organisations, development partners and industry experts to review cross-border remittance developments and discuss how to expand financial products and services for remittance recipients and rural communities. Discussions also covered measures to support job creation and entrepreneurship in rural areas, alongside the use of new technologies to strengthen financial literacy. The Central Bank highlighted progress on financial inclusion indicators, with adult financial account ownership rising from 37% in 2017 to 60% in 2024. A 2025 Asian Development Bank assessment cited an increase in digital payment usage from 39% in 2021 to 72% in 2025, while remittance survey results showed 27% of respondents have relatives abroad, 70% of those regularly receive transfers, and 51% use formal, card-linked channels. Commercial banks and financial service providers are expected to continue developing targeted products and outreach programmes for migrants and their families, with the Central Bank coordinating these efforts to support consumer protection, market integrity, enhanced financial literacy and alignment with national financial inclusion objectives.
