The National Bank of Moldova released banking-system statistics on cash operations for January–May 2025, showing cumulative cash withdrawals from banks’ cash desks totalled MDL 72,699.1 million and exceeded cumulative cash receipts of MDL 70,837.7 million by MDL 1,861.4 million. Both cash receipts and withdrawals rose versus the same period of the prior year. Cash receipts increased by MDL 2,696.6 million (+4.0%), driven mainly by cash received from consumer goods sales of MDL 40,402.5 million (57.0% of total receipts), up MDL 1,168.2 million (+3.0%), and higher cash inflows to individuals’ current and deposit accounts, up MDL 1,121.5 million (+17.6%). Cash receipts from other services fell by MDL 289.0 million (-5.4%). Cash withdrawals increased by MDL 3,784.6 million (+5.5%), with the largest contribution coming from withdrawals to buy foreign currency from individuals, up MDL 3,046.6 million to MDL 16,581.2 million (EUR 851.9 million), representing 22.8% of total withdrawals; ATM withdrawals rose by MDL 1,052.0 million (+3.5%) and cash disbursed as loans to individuals rose by MDL 513.0 million (+32.5%), while withdrawals for other purposes declined by MDL 859.6 million (-9.4%) and withdrawals from individuals’ accounts decreased by MDL 62.2 million (-0.8%).
