At Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank meetings in Doha, Egyptian Finance Minister Ahmed Kouchouk called for the bank to expand development financing for advanced, climate resilient infrastructure and align its strategy and financing policies more closely with members’ economic circumstances and national priorities. He advocated innovative, long term financing in local currencies, stronger risk sharing and guarantees, and greater mobilization of private capital to reduce financing and debt servicing costs. Kouchouk highlighted opportunities to use concessional development bank funding for renewable energy and electricity interconnections with neighboring countries, building on Egypt’s infrastructure investments across transportation, electricity, water and sanitation. He also urged development banks to combine financing with technical expertise and implementation capacity to improve public investment management and provide greater predictability over project pipelines and scale.
