The Thailand Office of Insurance Commission has outlined plans to study online access to Thai compulsory motor insurance for vehicles entering from Laos. The initiative follows Thai-Laos road transport talks that identified difficulties for some Lao drivers and operators in obtaining the coverage required under Thai law at border checkpoints. Potential measures include QR codes at checkpoints linking to online purchase channels and support for neighboring-country languages. The system could allow travelers to review coverage terms, enter information, pay premiums and receive digital proof of insurance, while enabling travelers and authorities to verify coverage status. The commission will discuss insurance rules, distribution, verification, accident victim protection and coordination with Thai insurers, Lao regulators, insurance businesses and other relevant agencies.
