Net private inflows totaled USD 73.5 billion, while net official inflows were USD 10.2 billion. U.S. residents bought a net USD 68.5 billion of long-term foreign securities, resulting in estimated overall net foreign sales of USD 27.9 billion in long-term securities after adjustments. Foreign holdings of Treasury bills rose by USD 38.8 billion, while banks’ net dollar-denominated liabilities to foreign residents increased by USD 46.6 billion. The country-level holdings data rely primarily on custodial records and therefore cannot always identify the ultimate foreign owner accurately.
