The Central Bank of Iraq said Governor Ali Mohsen Al-Alaq met Azerbaijan's ambassador to Iraq, Eldar Salimov, in Baghdad to discuss stronger financial and banking cooperation between the two countries. The talks focused on improving bilateral financial transfer mechanisms, particularly those linked to the banking sector. The discussion also covered broader banking ties, including the possibility of opening bank branches and expanding financial partnerships to support cross-border economic exchange. Electronic payment card systems were another focus, with the two sides reviewing ways to facilitate payments for travellers and improve the efficiency of financial operations. Separately, Salimov invited Al-Alaq to attend the Islamic Development Bank meetings scheduled in Baku from 16 to 19 June 2026.
