Bolivia's Ministry of Finance announced the inauguration of a new leadership team at the Central Bank of Bolivia (BCB), appointing David Iván Espinoza Torrico as President of the BCB Board and naming four new board members. The board members are Walter Fernando Orellana Rocha, Álvaro Alfonso Romero Villavicencio, Dennise Sussan Martin Alarcon and Claudia Haydee Pacheco Ayala. In remarks delivered during the ceremony, President Rodrigo Paz Pereira linked the appointments to restoring credibility, emphasising institutional independence, fiscal discipline and transparency, and stating that the central bank should not serve any government. Minister José Gabriel Espinoza Yáñez set out priorities for the new economic management, including ending the financing of public spending through monetary issuance, bringing order to the foreign exchange market and restoring full effect of the BCB Law to secure the institution’s technical autonomy.
