The Hong Kong Monetary Authority has issued a public alert following a press release by Shanghai Commercial Bank Limited about a fraudulent website and a fake internet banking login screen that were reported to the HKMA, and has provided a link to the bank’s notice. The HKMA reiterated that banks will not send SMS messages or emails containing embedded hyperlinks directing customers to bank websites to carry out transactions, and will not request sensitive personal information such as login passwords or one-time passwords by phone, email or SMS. Anyone who has provided personal information or conducted financial transactions through or in response to the fraudulent website or login screen is advised to contact the bank using the details in its press release and report the matter to the Hong Kong Police Force.
