The Agency for Regulation and Development of the Financial Market of the Republic of Kazakhstan announced that, under an order of the Head of State, Timur Abilkasymov has been appointed First Deputy Chair of the Agency. Before the appointment, Abilkasymov served as Deputy Chair from 2024, overseeing supervision and assessment of second-tier banks and the development of supervisory technology, including the introduction of artificial intelligence and supervisory action monitoring. He also coordinated the drafting of a new Law “On Banks and Banking Activity” aimed at modernising and strengthening the resilience of Kazakhstan’s banking system, and previously led the development and implementation of risk-based supervisory elements including the Supervisory Review and Evaluation Process (SREP), stress testing and asset quality review (AQR).
