Luxembourg's Ministry of Finance reported on a two-day working visit by Finance Minister Gilles Roth to Madrid alongside Luxembourg for Finance to strengthen links between the Luxembourg and Spanish financial centres, with a focus on Luxembourg’s role as a European platform serving European and Latin American markets. Meetings with Spanish financial institutions highlighted the scale of existing interconnections, including six Spanish banks operating in Luxembourg, Luxembourg funds accounting for 72% of the volume of foreign funds distributed in Spain, and 33 Spanish issuers listed on the Luxembourg Stock Exchange. The programme also included exchanges with IE University/IE Business School on financial education and future skills for the sector, including digital and sustainability, and discussions with Spain’s Minister of Economy, Trade and Enterprise Carlos Cuerpo on the macroeconomic environment, euro area fiscal developments, mobilising finance to support European competitiveness, and opportunities for further cooperation between the two financial sectors.
