The Hong Kong Monetary Authority has issued a public alert pointing to a press release by Nanyang Commercial Bank, Limited about fraudulent websites, internet banking login screens and social media accounts that have been reported to the HKMA, with a link to the bank’s announcement provided on the HKMA website. The HKMA reminded customers that banks will not send SMS or emails containing embedded hyperlinks directing users to bank websites to carry out transactions, and will not request sensitive personal information such as login passwords or one-time passwords by phone, email or SMS. Anyone who has provided personal information or conducted financial transactions via the fraudulent channels is advised to contact the bank using the details in the bank’s press release and report the matter to the Police.
