At the Women in the Financial Sector Conference in Arusha, Tanzania’s Insurance Commissioner, Dr Baghayo Saqware, urged the development of insurance products designed specifically for women and said the Tanzania Insurance Regulatory Authority (TIRA) is ready to receive and recognise such products to expand their availability in the insurance market. He also highlighted TIRA’s priority to strengthen public insurance education, with an objective of raising insurance awareness to 80% by 2030, including among women. The conference programme included contributions from Zanzibar’s Minister in the Office of the President (Ikulu), Saada Mkuya, TIRA Deputy Insurance Commissioner Khadija Said, and the Bank of Tanzania’s Deputy Governor for Administration and Internal Control, Dr Rahma Salim Mahfoudh, alongside other financial sector stakeholders.
