The Central Bank of Luxembourg published provisional statistics showing the aggregate balance sheet total of credit institutions reached EUR 1,007,183 million at 31 January 2026, up from EUR 981,560 million at 31 December 2025, an increase of 2.61%. The month-on-month expansion was mainly driven on the asset side by higher claims on other banks and deposit-taking institutions, and on the liability side by higher debts to other sectors; year on year, the balance sheet total increased by 3.88%. The net interbank position increased by EUR 12,511 million (5.82%) to EUR 227,612 million at end-January 2026. Loans to non-bank customers rose by EUR 986 million (0.83%) from December 2025 to January 2026 and by EUR 4,704 million (4.10%) over 12 months, with lending to non-financial corporations down EUR 772 million (3.28%) year on year, household mortgage lending up EUR 1,227 million (2.96%) and lending to other financial intermediaries up EUR 4,019 million (9.35%). On the liability side, resident non-bank deposits increased by EUR 11,742 million (3.88%) over the month and by EUR 16,411 million (5.51%) over 12 months, including an EUR 17,345 million rise in deposits from other financial intermediaries (8.85%), which accounted for 68% at 31 January 2026, while household deposits rose EUR 2,538 million (5.34%) and deposits from non-financial corporations fell EUR 3,210 million (12%).
