Jamaica's Ministry of Finance and the Public Service announced the appointment of R Brian Langrin as governor of the Bank of Jamaica, effective Aug. 19, 2026. Appointed by the governor-general in council following a search process, Langrin will succeed Richard Byles, whose term concludes Aug. 18. Langrin has more than two decades of experience in central banking, financial stability and multilateral development institutions. He previously held senior roles in financial stability and economic research at the Bank of Jamaica and served as a financial stability adviser at the International Monetary Fund-administered Caribbean Regional Technical Assistance Centre. The government reaffirmed the central bank's independence and continuity of monetary and financial policy, while Langrin identified low and stable inflation, financial stability and financial system modernization as priorities.
