Greece’s Ministry of National Economy and Finance reported 1,364 successful restructurings through the out-of-court debt mechanism in August, bringing the cumulative total to 69,997 arrangements covering EUR 20.56 billion in initial debt. The application approval rate remained at 71% following the introduction of mandatory creditor participation. The total includes 7,855 successful arrangements for vulnerable debtors, of which 528 involved people with disabilities. The mechanism has also secured 627 suspensions of property auctions. Separately, the four largest credit servicers completed EUR 372 million of bilateral loan restructurings for 4,233 debtors in July, while 15% of nonperforming loans remaining on banks’ balance sheets were under restructuring in the second quarter of 2026. An additional primary residence protection tool will become available through the out-of-court mechanism on Sept. 21, allowing debtors to preserve their main home by liquidating secondary assets where applicable. The platform already accepts debts from EUR 5,000 and offers up to 240 installments for public-sector debt and 420 installments for bank debt.
