The National Association of Insurance Commissioners published a statement congratulating the Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety on surpassing 100,000 FORTIFIED-designated homes and used the update to outline how its Catastrophe Risk Management Center of Excellence supports state insurance regulators’ resilience and mitigation work. The center provides resources and technical expertise to help state departments of insurance develop, implement, and expand resilience-focused programs, including mitigation grant initiatives, with the stated aims of reducing severe weather risk, improving insurability and supporting faster recovery. The support includes guidance on program design and operations, contributions to legislation and policy through written and oral testimony, and technical tools such as data-driven grant prioritization and mitigation discount benchmarks to guide use of funds and homeowner premium reductions. NAIC also linked this work to the broader objectives of its Natural Catastrophe Risk and Resilience Task Force and related working groups, and said it facilitates IBHS facility visits for state leaders and partners to demonstrate the FORTIFIED and Wildfire Prepared programs.
