The Central Bank of Chile announced it will publish the Online Retail Sales Index for Retail Trade (IVOCM) monthly from 5 March 2025, tracking the share of e-commerce within total formal retail sales and its evolution over time. It positioned the new indicator as a way to quantify a trend that is only implicitly captured in the National Accounts, to support analysis of the economic effects of digitalisation. The IVOCM will be released under the Bank’s “Experimental Statistics” programme via its Statistical Database and website, using data visualisation tools. Publication will include nominal online retail sales indices with disaggregations, alongside the share of online sales in total sales for each breakdown; as an experimental series under development, it may be subject to significant revisions.
