The Central Bank of Seychelles has announced it will issue an updated SCR 500 banknote in December 2025 that will circulate alongside the existing SCR 500 note. The update reflects the discontinuation of the Optiks thread security feature on the current banknote, described as the oval transparent window showing Seychelles vinegar flies. The revised note replaces this with a holographic foil stripe depicting a sea turtle swimming in the waves, while retaining the 2016 currency series theme “Seychelles’ Unique Biodiversity – the backbone of our economy” and keeping most other design and security elements unchanged, including the paper, featured endemic flora and fauna, size, and colour scheme. CBS emphasised that both versions should be accepted for payment transactions. CBS will roll out a public awareness campaign to help users recognise the updated banknote and its security features.
