The United Arab Emirates National Anti-Money Laundering and Combating Financing of Terrorism and Financing of Illegal Organisations Committee hosted a five-day Financial Action Task Force workshop in Abu Dhabi for the Joint Working Group for Europe and the Middle East. Experts supported seven national delegations in advancing time-bound action plans designed to address strategic deficiencies in their anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing systems. The workshop assessed progress and effectiveness across national risk management, risk-based supervision and preventive measures, financial intelligence, investigations and prosecutions, asset recovery, international cooperation, targeted financial sanctions and beneficial ownership information. Discussions focused on demonstrating practical effectiveness, rather than formal compliance alone, and maintaining alignment with FATF standards and assessment methods.
