The Argentina Superintendency of Insurance reported that Superintendent Guillermo Plate was unanimously appointed as the new president of the Association of Latin American Insurance Supervisors (ASSAL), with the appointment formalised at ASSAL’s 36th Annual General Assembly in Buenos Aires. ASSAL brings together 21 countries, including 19 Latin American full members and two adherent members, Spain and Portugal. The appointment took place during a week in which the Superintendency hosted a series of international insurance supervision events in Buenos Aires from 26 to 28 March, including the ASSAL-FSI-IAIS High-Level Meeting on Insurance Supervision, the 23rd ASSAL-IAIS Annual Conference on Insurance Regulation and Supervision in Latin America, and the 36th ASSAL Annual General Assembly. In taking on the ASSAL presidency, Plate is expected to focus on strengthening cooperation among supervisory authorities and promoting regulatory approaches aimed at supporting more dynamic and competitive insurance markets in Latin America.
