The Central Bank of Iraq organized specialized training for more than 250 employees from banking and nonbank financial institutions on the outcomes of national and mutual assessments of money laundering and terrorist financing risks. The program focused on implementing actions recommended by the Financial Action Task Force and strengthening preventive controls for major predicate offenses and risks related to money laundering, terrorist financing and proliferation financing. The training covered the national risk assessment, measures to improve the volume and quality of suspicious transaction reports, enhanced due diligence for politically exposed persons, and terrorist financing risk indicators and controls. Practical cases were used to build participants’ ability to assess risks and apply proportionate measures in line with Iraq’s 2015 anti-money laundering and counterterrorist financing law and FATF standards.
