The European Central Bank published the disaggregated financial statement of the Eurosystem as at 28 November 2025, providing a balance-sheet breakdown by national central bank and the ECB. Total Eurosystem assets and liabilities were EUR 6,143,717 million. Securities of euro area residents denominated in euro totalled EUR 4,082,148 million, including EUR 3,769,203 million held for monetary policy purposes. Gold and gold receivables stood at EUR 1,128,571 million and claims on non-euro area residents denominated in foreign currency at EUR 497,351 million. On the liability side, banknotes in circulation were EUR 1,595,274 million and liabilities to euro area credit institutions related to monetary policy operations were EUR 2,635,991 million, comprising EUR 2,464,210 million in the deposit facility and EUR 171,781 million in current accounts linked to the minimum reserve system; the ECB also notes that “capital and reserves” can be negative for individual national central banks due to accumulated losses carried forward.
