The Reserve Bank of New Zealand has announced that Hayley Gourley has been appointed as a new external member of its Monetary Policy Committee (MPC), following appointment by the Minister of Finance on the recommendation of the Reserve Bank Board. Gourley will begin a four-year term on 1 October, replacing Professor Bob Buckle, who will retire from the MPC at the end of September 2025. Gourley is an agribusiness executive with experience across corporate, rural and financial services sectors and will participate in the October Monetary Policy Review. The MPC is responsible for monetary policy decisions aimed at supporting price stability, and the Reserve Bank noted Buckle’s service, including as the sole remaining inaugural external member since the MPC’s formation in 2019.
