The Portuguese Insurance and Pension Funds Supervisory Authority published its second-quarter 2026 pension fund activity report, showing that assets under management reached EUR 20.5 billion at the end of June, up 3.2% from the end of 2025. Financial gains contributed 3.5%, while the net balance of contributions against pensions and other benefit payments was negative 0.3%. The number of pension funds under management stood at 239. Contributions totaled EUR 465.9 million in the first half, a 17.4% year-over-year increase driven by subscriptions to retirement savings plan funds and individual memberships. Benefits paid rose 7.4% to EUR 518.9 million, including increases of 4.8% for closed funds and 18.1% for open funds. The broad portfolio structure remained stable, although investment fund exposure increased to 43%. Debt securities represented 46% of portfolios, followed by real estate at 7%, equities at 2% and bank deposits at 2%.
