The South African Reserve Bank has expanded its Quarterly Bulletin statistics with a new experimental table on outstanding climate finance debt securities issued by South African residents in domestic and foreign markets. It has also revised the nominal and real effective exchange rate indices for the South African rand. The climate finance table reports securities at nominal and market value, covering green, sustainability and sustainability-linked bonds with breakdowns by institutional sector and interest rate type. The expansion addresses data gaps identified under recommendation 4 of the Group of Twenty Data Gaps Initiative. The revised effective exchange rate indices use updated weights effective from Jan. 3, 2022, and change the base year from 2015 to 2022.
