The Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo held an introductory meeting with the World Bank’s new Country Director for Kosovo, Carole Megevand, to review recent financial-sector developments and reaffirm ongoing cooperation, including World Bank technical assistance dedicated to the central bank. Discussions covered reforms being pursued by the central bank to support sustainable economic growth and strengthen the financial system, with a focus on legal and regulatory reforms, digitalisation, financial-sector capitalisation, financial resilience, preparation for Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) membership and the green agenda. Megevand noted progress in aligning Kosovo’s legal and regulatory framework with European Union standards, while Governor Ahmet Ismaili outlined preparations and current challenges for the SEPA application process. The meeting also addressed the World Bank’s regional payment-system modernisation project, including the development of instant payments through the Bank of Italy and their planned linkage to European Union and European Central Bank payment systems after SEPA membership. Both sides confirmed plans to continue close collaboration and reviewed results from ongoing joint projects.
