The Astana Financial Services Authority has issued an alert about the unauthorised use of AFSA’s name by the ‘Ya Sobral’ project and the impersonation of an Astana International Financial Centre (AIFC) firm licensed by AFSA. AFSA said the website ya-sobral.com falsely claims to be regulated by AFSA and publishes documents using the name “Investroom Ltd”, impersonating InvestRoom Ltd, an AIFC-incorporated firm licensed by AFSA to operate a loan crowdfunding platform (Licence AFSA-G-LA-2022-0005). AFSA stated that no entity named ‘Ya Sobral’ (or similar) is or has ever been registered in the AIFC or licensed by AFSA, and that the activities show characteristics of potential criminal offences including fraud and illegal business activity under Kazakhstan’s Criminal Code. The regulator urged the public to verify authorisation via its Public Register and advised against entering into contracts or transferring funds to parties associated with the project.
