Hong Kong Interbank Clearing Limited (HKICL) has warned that a fraudulent website is impersonating its services through a fake “Buyer Online Protection” platform linked to Faster Payment System (FPS) transactions. The site has no affiliation with HKICL and seeks users’ identity documents, photographs, phone numbers and bank account details under the pretext of verification, cash rewards, refunds and virtual wallet transactions. The website also directs users to fraudsters posing as customer service personnel. HKICL emphasized that it does not directly provide FPS services to individual members of the public or ordinarily contact them proactively, and urged anyone who may have fallen victim to report the matter promptly to the police.
