Bank of Indonesia published the latest Prompt Manufacturing Index (PMI-BI) results showing manufacturing performance strengthened in the first quarter of 2026, with the index remaining in expansionary territory at 52.03, up from 51.86 in the prior period. Most PMI-BI components were in expansion, led by inventory volume, production volume and order volume. Most manufacturing subsectors also stayed expansionary, with the highest readings led by paper and paper products, printing and reproduction of recorded media, leather and footwear, and food and beverages. For the second quarter of 2026, respondents expect continued expansion, with PMI-BI forecast at 52.26, driven primarily by production volume, inventory volume and order volume, and with the strongest subsector readings predicted in furniture, leather and footwear, and food and beverages.
