The European Commission has profiled Netherlands-based Oyster Heaven’s approach to restoring coastal ecosystems through scalable oyster reef projects. The company uses its clay-based Mother Reef structure as a low-cost alternative to rock or concrete, providing a surface for European flat oyster larvae to settle and grow. It has developed 17 projects across seven countries, with more than 20 additional projects in development. Oyster Heaven combines public and private financing by tailoring projects to water utilities, municipalities and insurers. After raising EUR 800,000 from Orange Wings Investments in 2022, it secured support from corporate and institutional partners, including the West Yorkshire Pension Fund. The company, one of four Ocean Resilience finalists at BlueInvest Day 2026, is preparing a new funding round to finance project delivery and research.
