The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) issued an alert following a press release by China Minsheng Banking Corp., Ltd. about a fraudulent website and a fake internet banking login screen that were reported to the HKMA. The HKMA reminded the public that banks will not send SMS or emails containing embedded hyperlinks directing customers to bank websites to carry out transactions, and will not request sensitive personal information such as login passwords or One-Time Passwords by phone, email or SMS, including via embedded hyperlinks. It advised anyone who provided personal information or conducted transactions via the fraudulent site or login screen to contact the bank and report the matter to the Hong Kong Police Force.
