The Reserve Bank of Australia reported total assets and liabilities of AUD 360.675 billion at the close of business on Aug. 5, down AUD 169 million over the week. Exchange Settlement balances rose AUD 2.408 billion to AUD 201.479 billion, while other deposits fell AUD 1.666 billion and other liabilities declined AUD 1.440 billion. On the asset side, gold and foreign exchange holdings increased AUD 319 million to AUD 109.143 billion, mainly reflecting valuation changes. Australian dollar investments decreased AUD 888 million to AUD 248.005 billion, primarily because of securities transactions.
