The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) published a scam alert drawing attention to a bank-issued notice from China CITIC Bank International Limited after reports to the HKMA of a fraudulent website and a fake internet banking login screen. The HKMA reminded the public that banks will not send SMS messages or emails containing embedded hyperlinks directing customers to bank websites to carry out transactions, and will not request sensitive information such as login passwords or one-time passwords by phone, email or SMS, including via embedded hyperlinks. Anyone who has provided personal information or conducted transactions in response to the scams was advised to contact the relevant bank using details in the bank’s press release and to report the matter to the Hong Kong Police Force’s Crime Wing Information Centre.
