The Australian Securities & Investments Commission (ASIC) announced it will launch a new digital portal for Australian financial services (AFS) licensing on 5 May 2025, enabling firms to apply for, vary and cancel an AFS licence through a redesigned system. Until the new portal goes live, applicants and existing AFS licensees can continue using the current AFS Licenses portal. ASIC stressed that eligibility criteria and the information required to assess applications will not change, although ASIC Regulatory Guides 1–3 (the AFS Licensing Kit) will be updated at launch to reflect the portal’s design and functionality. The portal is intended to streamline licensing by pre-filling known information, tailoring questions to the applicant, and collecting essential information upfront, with supporting transition materials to be published on ASIC’s website.
