The National Bank of Serbia published payment system statistics showing that 518,200 financial contracts were concluded remotely in 2025, up 60% from 323,900 in 2024 and 7.2 times the 71,500 recorded in 2020. The data distinguish distance contracts concluded via video identification for first-time users from those concluded through other electronic means for customers with an existing business relationship. Contracts concluded using video identification exceeded 159,000 in 2025, up 75.4% from 90,600 in 2024, raising their share to 30.7% of all remote contracts compared with 8.4% in 2020. Of video identification contracts, 2,721 (1.7%) related to payment services provided by non-bank payment service providers, while the remaining 359,200 contracts were concluded by other electronic means, up 54% year on year and representing 69.3% of remote contracting. For banking payment service providers, citizens increased remote contracting across all services, including cash loans (170,595, up 41.3%), opening a payment account (128,655, up 66.4%), overdrafts (82,707, up 25.4%), demand or term savings (71,471, up 109.5%) and other services (62,035, up 140.8%). The National Bank of Serbia reported a significant rise in remote financial contracts, totaling 518,200 in 2025, a 60% increase from 2024. Contracts using video identification surged by 75.4% to over 159,000, now comprising 30.7% of all remote contracts. Citizens increasingly utilized remote contracting for various banking services, with notable growth in cash loans, payment accounts, overdrafts, savings, and other services.
