The Chile Financial Market Commission (CMF) published an updated assessment of insurance claims associated with the fires that began on 17 January 2026 in the Ñuble and Biobío Regions, covering claim volumes and settlement progress for general and life insurers. For general insurance companies, 524 claims had been filed as of 20 February, with 506 relating to Biobío and Ñuble. Of the claims filed between 17 January and 20 February, 328 were for home damage, 102 for vehicle damage, and 94 for other property damage. The CMF reported that 62 percent of the 524 claims were settled, with settled amounts totalling approximately CLP 10,237,127,000. For life insurance companies, 34 claims were filed and 33 were settled with payments, of which 26 related to Biobío and eight to Ñuble. The CMF also directed citizens to its free online Know Your Insurance platform to check whether they have insurance coverage.
