Securities Commission Malaysia has launched the third cohort of its Shariah Mentorship Programme, aimed at developing a new generation of Shariah professionals for the Islamic capital market. The launch coincided with recognition of 15 graduates from the programme’s second cohort. Introduced in 2023 and funded by the Capital Market Development Fund, the programme is run by ISRA Consulting, which is wholly owned by INCEIF University. Each cohort undertakes an eight-month structure comprising three months of intensive classroom learning and five months of industry placements, with mentorship provided by members of the Securities Commission Malaysia’s Shariah Advisory Council. The programme has produced 30 alumni to date, with more than 70% now working in Islamic finance institutions, and alumni are expected to be registered as Shariah advisers with the regulator within the next five years.
