The Tanzania Insurance Regulatory Authority reported its participation in a major insurance debate organised by the Tanzania Insurance Institute, aimed at increasing young people’s understanding of insurance and testing their knowledge of the sector. The event brought together secondary school and university students alongside insurance sector stakeholders, with the authority taking part in its capacity as the insurance sector supervisor. TIRA Eastern Zone Manager Zakaria Muyengi served as chief judge. Discussion topics included the importance of parents involving children in insurance matters, the role of microinsurance in society, and whether insurance is a luxury or a necessity in everyday life. Shabaan Robert Secondary School won the secondary school category and the University of Dar es Salaam won the university category. In remarks at the event, Muyengi stressed that early insurance education can help young people make sound financial decisions and build a culture of protection against disasters and other risks. The debate was presented as part of broader efforts to provide insurance education to the public, particularly young people.
