The National Bank of the Republic of Tajikistan published a readout of discussions held on the sidelines of the IMF and World Bank Group annual meetings between Tajikistan’s First Deputy Prime Minister and the President of the Islamic Development Bank Group, with Tajik officials including the central bank’s chairman participating. The talks focused on widening bilateral cooperation across key economic sectors, with banking and financial-sector reform featuring prominently. The agenda covered potential cooperation in energy, industry, agriculture, transport, tourism and banking, alongside efforts to reduce the impact of external factors on Tajikistan’s economy and to continue reforms. On banking, the parties discussed the development of Islamic banking as a priority direction for reform of the financial system, alongside work to build the regulatory and legal framework, strengthen staff capacity, and implement international standards. The sides also discussed green energy, the green economy, digitalisation and the adoption of innovative technologies, and expressed readiness to expand cooperation and jointly implement projects aimed at Tajikistan’s sustainable economic development.
