The Thailand Office of Insurance Commission (OIC) convened its Consumer Protection and Insurance Participation Committee meeting No. 1/2026 and approved measures aimed at strengthening consumer protection in insurance, including accelerating remedies for affected policyholders and beneficiaries, improving the vehicle accident victim protection system, and promoting greater inclusion of people with disabilities. Chaired by the Secretary General of the OIC and attended by insurance industry bodies, government agencies and consumer and disability advocacy groups, the committee reviewed follow-up on recommendations from the prior meeting and agreed actions to expand compulsory insurance to cover a wider range of risks through coordinated work with other government agencies, with the objective of ensuring fair compensation for people affected by accidents. The package also includes continued public communications on insurance knowledge through multiple channels, publication of insurance statistics to support public awareness, and an approach to increase employment opportunities for people with disabilities in the insurance sector by aligning job roles with suitability, protecting rights and reducing barriers to entry.
