The Hong Kong Financial Services and the Treasury Bureau has entered into a market agreement with 45 insurers to extend existing mandatory motor and employees’ compensation insurance policies to the Huanggang Port Hong Kong Port Area at no additional cost to policyholders. The coverage applies from July 31, 2026, ahead of the port’s official opening on October 12. The agreement covers policies required under the Motor Vehicles Insurance (Third Party Risks) Ordinance and the Employees’ Compensation Ordinance. Although the Hong Kong Port Area Ordinance took effect on July 31, private insurance contracts did not automatically extend to the area, prompting the bureau to negotiate the arrangement through the Insurance Authority. The extension is intended to maintain policyholders’ compliance with mandatory insurance requirements while limiting administrative burdens.
