The Bank of Italy has published the ninth issue of the Paolo Baffi Library Newsletter, its four-monthly update on the library’s collections, activities and research. The issue combines institutional and historical content with library developments. It includes a feature marking the 80th anniversary of the Italian Republic through documents held by the library, a report on a professional visit by librarians from the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions, and the launch of a new “Navigating information” series on information literacy. The new information literacy section outlines three core problems in the current information environment: information disorder, information overload and functional illiteracy, and explains how these are amplified by social media, algorithms, cognitive biases and echo chambers. The issue also includes a bibliophile article on the library’s copies of the first two editions of The Betrothed and a selection of recent acquisitions. Among them is a volume edited by Bank of Italy Financial Risk Management Department head Antonio Scalia on corporate credit analysis and artificial intelligence, which describes methodologies developed for the Bank’s in-house credit assessment system for Italian non-financial companies and covers newer applications including climate, governance, cyber and sentiment-related risk analysis.

This issue marks the 80th anniversary of the Italian Republic, reports on an IFLA library visit and launches a new information literacy series. It also highlights recent acquisitions, including a book on AI-based corporate credit analysis developed for the Bank’s in-house rating system.
