The Reserve Bank of India has released draft directions for secondary market transactions in government securities. The draft would consolidate existing instructions governing these transactions into a single master direction, with the stated aim of improving clarity, streamlining compliance and giving stakeholders one reference point. The consultation is aimed at banks, market participants, investors and other interested stakeholders. It covers the framework for undertaking secondary market transactions in government securities by bringing together extant instructions that are currently issued separately. Comments on the draft directions are invited until July 17, 2026.
