The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) issued an alert to the public following a press release from Shanghai Commercial Bank Limited about a fraudulent website and an internet banking login screen that were reported to the HKMA. The HKMA reminded customers that banks will not send SMS or emails with embedded hyperlinks directing users to bank websites to conduct transactions, and will not request sensitive personal information such as login passwords or one-time passwords by phone, email or SMS, including via embedded links. It advised anyone who has provided personal information or carried out transactions through the fraudulent website or login screen to contact the bank using the details in Shanghai Commercial Bank Limited’s press release and to report the matter to the Hong Kong Police Force.
