It reminded customers that banks will not send SMS messages or emails containing embedded hyperlinks that direct them to bank websites to carry out transactions, and will not request sensitive personal information such as login passwords or one-time passwords by phone, email or SMS, including via embedded hyperlinks. Anyone who provided personal information or conducted financial transactions via the fraudulent website or login screen was advised to contact Chong Hing Bank using the details in its press release and to report the matter to the Hong Kong Police Force.
