The Central Bank of Iceland announced that Prime Minister Kristrún Frostadóttir has appointed Thórarinn G. Pétursson to serve as Deputy Governor for Monetary Policy for a five-year term, effective 15 January 2025. Pétursson has worked at the Central Bank of Iceland since 1994 and has served as Chief Economist and Director of the Economics and Monetary Policy Department since 2009. His previous roles include membership of the Monetary Policy Committee from 2009 to 2019, leadership positions in research and forecasting and editing the Bank’s Monetary Bulletin, and he has also participated in international cooperation through institutions including the International Monetary Fund and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development.
