In a keynote speech at the Hong Kong Management Association’s 2026 Quality Award Presentation Ceremony, Hong Kong Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority and eMPF Platform Company Chair Ayesha Macpherson Lau urged business leaders to make long-term decisions, institutionalize knowledge and strengthen employees’ retirement protection. She encouraged employers to consider voluntary Mandatory Provident Fund contributions on top of mandatory payments, arguing that these can support employee retention and provide longer-term financial security than one-off bonuses. Lau cited the fully operational eMPF Platform as an example of long-term system building. By integrating trustees’ separate administration systems, eMPF has standardized and automated processes while centralizing data, allowing suspected fraudulent withdrawal claims to be identified and addressed earlier. Voluntary payments account for one-quarter of total MPF contributions, and nearly half of employees aged 30 to 59 have voluntary contributions in their accounts.
