The National Bank of the Republic of Tajikistan has issued a clarification on the special regulatory regime for a pilot project on the taxation of individual entrepreneurs. It said the project does not apply to money transfers between individuals that have no commercial character, including transfers among family members, relatives and other citizens, and those transactions will not be taxed. The pilot is intended to simplify taxation for individual entrepreneurs and support non-cash payments. Under the project, the tax rate for individual entrepreneurs is reduced from 6 percent to 3 percent, tax calculation is automatic, and 1 percent is returned to the buyer or payer as cashback to encourage non-cash payments. The central bank also said electronic wallets, bank cards and other modern payment instruments are safe and that bank secrecy remains fully protected.
