The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) issued an alert to the public following a press release by Nanyang Commercial Bank, Limited on fraudulent websites and internet banking login screens that have been reported to the HKMA. The HKMA reminded customers that banks will not send SMS or emails with embedded hyperlinks directing users to bank websites to carry out transactions, nor will they request sensitive personal information such as login passwords or one-time passwords by phone, email or SMS, including via embedded hyperlinks. Individuals who provided personal information or conducted transactions through the fraudulent sites or login screens were advised to contact the bank using the details in Nanyang Commercial Bank’s press release and to report the matter to the Hong Kong Police Force’s Crime Wing Information Centre.
