The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency released remarks by Acting Comptroller Rodney E. Hood from the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Financial Literacy Roundtable, where he emphasised the role of financial literacy in empowering underserved communities and outlined the agency’s support for banks’ financial education efforts. The roundtable, titled “Empowering Americans in Underserved Communities through Financial Literacy,” focused on improving financial literacy and education in underserved rural and Native communities. Hood linked financial literacy to a well-functioning financial system and to helping consumers build wealth for themselves and future generations, and pointed to the OCC’s efforts to support banks as they provide financial education to customers and communities.
